Mark I. Melo graduated UCLA (B.A., 1994, magna cum laude) with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. While an undergraduate, he completed an internship with the Public Defender Service in the District of Columbia, assisting in investigative duties. Mr. Melo earned Dean's List honors several times and was awarded Phi Beta Kappa. Mr. Melo earned his law degree from the UCLA School of Law (J.D., 1997). There, he served as a teaching assistant in the Lawyering Skills Program, helping first-year students develop their legal writing, advocacy, and counseling abilities. Mr. Melo also worked with clients at UCLA's Student Legal Services Office, and helped coordinate fundraising and volunteering efforts for the UCLA Public Interest Law Foundation.
Mr. Melo began his legal career in the Los Angeles office of a nationwide law firm, defending various manufacturers and corporations in products liability and commercial litigation matters, and specializing in consumer warranty litigation on behalf of automotive manufacturers. He served as lead counsel or second chair in a number of trials and arbitrations, and also achieved success at the appellate level. Lundy v. Ford Motor Company (2001) 87 Cal.App.4th 472.
Prior to joining Bradley and Gmelich, Mr. Melo was senior counsel in the commercial litigation department of one of California's oldest and most respected law firms. During that time, he represented clients in a wide variety of business litigation matters, including breach of contract, unfair business practices, toxic torts, collections, fraud and economic interference claims.
For the past several years, Mr. Melo has represented an international telecommunications company in consumer litigation matters throughout Southern California. He is admitted to the State Bar of California and the United States District Court, Central and Southern Districts of California.
Mr. Melo resides in Alhambra with his wife and two children.
